Since I’ve begun seeing winter holiday adverts and Target is now stocking decorations and wrapping paper, it seemed like a good time to make a list of socially responsible companies:

About:

Our Vision

Today as citizens of the world, we face a daunting array of social and environmental problems ranging from health care and education to global warming and economic inequality. For each of these issues, whether local or global in scope, there are millions of people who care passionately about working for change but lack the information and opportunities necessary to translate their interest into effective action.

Change.org aims to address this need by serving as the central platform informing and empowering movements for social change around the most important issues of our time.

From:  http://www.change.org/info/about

——

There are over a million non-profits listed on the site.

Issues:

Why I like the site:  It provides a hub for information (compelling and well-informed articles) and action (for example, sending letters to your representatives) on issues of interest and concerns to readers.  It’s nice to read about an issue and then have an opportunity to do something.

Music Memory

02Nov09

On Twitter, #musicmemory was trending.  I posted my first music memory- falling in love with Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours album, but believing Stevie Nicks was Juice Newton (Playing with the Queen of Hearts….).

Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks are still my favorite musicians, so I wanted to post some of their videos from the Rumours era.  It was incredible.

Haunting Me, Haunting You

Let the Right One In / John Williams

Me and the husband watched this film over the weekend via Netflix instant. It’s fantastic and highly recommended for those who enjoy vampire mythologies, snow, and/or coming-of-age stories.

I watched Bill Maher last night and in his new rule that “democrats must get in touch with their inner asshole” he made the comment that “Muhammad Ali also had a way with words, but it helped enormously that he could also punch guys in the face.” When I heard him mention Ali, I wanted to look at old interviews – cause he did have a way with words.  So, here they are:

Pajiba posted a list of the ten most terrifying movie creatures from your childhood.  See the full list here.

I agree with what they included for number one – for the most part:

1. The Clown in Poltergeist

But I would have to include this:

I can also remember seeing The Elephant Man with my Dad and Sister.  I sat in my dad’s lap at the theater with my eyes covered.  I may have been too young for that one.
